Updates from the ECI Steering Committee
Working to capture what is happening, trying to figure out where all of the component groups are working and identify where there is overlap, opportunity to work together vs groups feeling that things are assigned to them. Also trying to figure out how to implement the strategic plan given the change in funding situation and the pandemic since much work is paused. .
The system needs to identify priorities, opportunities for collaboration and coordination, and work towards identified priorities in tangible steps across the system. Data will continue to inform priorities, actionable steps, and planning. The Steering Committee is also participating in some systems thinking activities to help reflect upon the strategic plan and the early childhood system.
Equity Discussion Re-cap
Continue thinking how you bring equity into all conversations and aspects of your work. Integral part of how we think about system accountability.
How do we use our data to analyze disparity, asking what implications there are for equity?
How is the COVID pandemic affecting equity? What do we need to be doing to help this?
• Family support is helping provide phones and data plans to help access
Work Plan Goals Discussion
Results Accountability discussed existing tools that may be helpful as a guide for expanding upon. Community planning was discussed from a local-level perspective.
How does RA create a process that could be applied in different situations? May be more advisory level, create a process “tool”. Stronger recommendation for what LABs should produce, more step by step trainings
• Consider: who would do it, what is the scope, what would it look like?
• Think about beginning with Tool NN and reshaping it to meet a broader need (more standard sections with a few areas/sections to enhance based on program/community specific opportunities/desires); tracking progress over-time
• Once information is gathered (based on guidance from Tool NN for example), then what do you do with the data? How are items re-examined? How can data be analyzed to help inform strategies, action steps, decisions, future planning, etc.
Trainings on/ building a guide(s)/ tools: What is a logic model?; What is a strategic plan?; How should surveys be developed to gain the most needed/helpful information?; How does community planning help the counties identified?; How does data inform all of these “documents”/steps in planning? How to move research/data to practice
Consider how IDPH does the priorities by county for various health outcomes, could we do something like this for our 0-5 indicators?
• Jonn Durbin is the lead contact on CHNA/HIP.
June agenda/focus – look over interview results from ISU, where can we move forward on some of the “recommendation” buckets? Priorities for data in IDS, what do we need to keep an eye on with respect to COVID outcomes? (access, employment, child care)
Future Meeting Items
Homework: How is Tool NN useful? Do you know of any good data trainings? What things would you need to gain from it?
Look back at goal 1 – online training about data while we are still in quarantine? Basic data literacy, where to find data, what does Evidence Based mean?, stat 101….what would be included? How much is too much? How many webinars?
